These decreases, used for raglans, form a line of slanted stitches near the selvedge.
They are always done on the right side of the work, one or more stitches from the edge.

Example of decreases to 1 stitch from the edge:
At the beginning of the row, on the right side of the work, knit 1 stitch and knit 2 stitches together.
Continue the row.
At the end of the row, on the right side of the work, when there are 3 stitches left, knit 1 single crochet and 1 knit stitch.

THE HISTORY OF RAGLAN SLEEVES

Raglan was invented in the 1850s byLord Fitzroy Somersest, British military man also known asLord Raglan.

During the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, he was shot in the right arm and had to be amputated.

He was then appointed commander-in-chief and went to fight in the Crimean War.
This is where his legend was born and the beginning of the famous“raglan sleeves”.

It is said that, as supplies of equipment for the soldiers were running short during this war, he had clothes made from potato sacks. All he had to do was make a hole for the head and two diagonal cuts for the arms. That was it.

It is also said that, having difficulty dressing himself, he invented a sleeve sewn not at the shoulders, but at the collar to make it easier to put on his clothes.
