When the different parts of a garment are knitted, the stitches are picked up by inserting the needle into the selvedge, to make the collar or the edges of the fronts.

To pick up stitches in the knitting direction, insert the needle into the center of each stitch in the last row.

When picking up stitches on one side of the knitting, a stitch being wider than it is high, insert the needle into 2 or 3 successive rows, then skip a row, to obtain the number of stitches indicated in the explanation.
